Tapawera Community Center Study

New Community Hub for Tapawera

After many years of discussion, the opportunity for a new community hub in Tapawera has arrived.

Extensive community consultation identified a need for a fit-for-purpose new community hub to support community connection and access to support and wellbeing services in the local area.

Funds were secured for a feasibility study, which looked at options in the community based on community needs.

The Tapawera and Districts Community Council (TDCC) received the final report at the end last week.

The option recommended by the study is to build a new community hub on the site of the Tapawera Community Centre (owned by TDCC), which has been assessed as earthquake prone, and not feasible to repair.

The Tasman District Council has approved the building of the community hub into year 2 (2025) of it Draft Long Term Plan.  An in-principle contribution of funding from the Department of Internal Affairs through the Community-led Development Programme will add to the council funding.

This is a great opportunity and is thanks to the hard work and contribution of many members of our community.

A presentation of the findings will be held in early 2024 (Thursday 8 February, 7pm), which is a chance to view the concept, ask questions, and find out how to support the initiative, including submitting to the council’s LTP.
