Community-Led Development Programme

The Community Led Development Programme (CLDP) is an exciting partnership between the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) and the Tapawera community which will allow local people to envisage and create the Tapawera they'd like to see.

In September 2022 Tapawera joined the programme when Tapawera Connect signed a five-year agreement with DIA on behalf of the community. Click here to learn more about the Community-Led Development Programme.

It’s a great opportunity for the Tapawera community to take the lead and shape the future we all want to see. With CLDP it’s the community that is in the driving seat. Visit the Tapawera CLDP page to learn more and grab the opportunity to get involved!

The Community Hub needs your support!

Submissions close 28 April 2024.

To ensure the new hub goes ahead, we need as many people as possible to show they support this by completing the submission questionnaire, and adding a letter saying why they want it.

It is also important that people go along to speak at the hearing (8th. 9th and 10th of May). You can indicate that you would like to attend the hearing on the submission form. We can take a bus...not everyone has to speak, we can simply stand together to show our support. How awesome would that feel! Let Phoebe know if you are keen to come along.

New Community Hub for Tapawera

After many years of discussion, the opportunity for a new community hub in Tapawera has arrived.

Extensive community consultation identified a need for a fit-for-purpose new community hub to support community connection and access to support and wellbeing services in the local area.

Funds were secured for a feasibility study, which looked at options in the community based on community needs.

The Tapawera and Districts Community Council (TDCC) received the final report at the end last week.

A huge thank you

A huge thank you to all who provided feedback on the draft Community Plan. There were 130 submissions which included online and paper versions. It is exciting to know locals are keen to participate in happenings around Tapawera, with the focus being positive movement for the future. Here are the results from the consultation.

Please note: Community Led Projects are yet to be decided as action groups will have to be formed around the initiatives initially prioritised, and able to be resourced.

Tapawera Connect

Tapawera Connect is an Incorporated Charitable Trust supported by the Department of Internal Affairs which was set up in 2020 to support connection and resilience in our community. The committee members meet fortnightly and help facilitate action from within the community to achieve our shared community vision.

The Tapawera & Districts Community Council aims to give a voice to the residents of the Tapawera district and promote the improvement of our community. We promote the interests of Tapawera and surrounding areas for the betterment of residents, local enterprises and community services.
