In the November Informer, we reported that the Reserve area attached to Shedwood Bush was not part of the Tenths settlement. Unfortunately this was due to a miscommunication, and is incorrect.
Please see the information and map below from DoC, received this week, which details clearly the status of both Shedwood Bush and the Reserve.
TDCC unreservedly apologise for the error, and thank Mark Soper for his part in helping to get this matter resolved.
Kind regards,
Trish Palmer Secretary TDCC
Shedwood Bush Scenic Reserve (Lot 1 DP 19139, recorded area 1.98 ha) is within the Spain Award area and title to the land is being transferred to the trustees of Te Here ā Nuku Trust. Following transfer of title to the trustees, the land will remain as scenic reserve and will still be administered by DOC, but administration of the reserve will be under the modified statutory regime set out in Te Here ā Nuku (Nelson Tenths) Act 2026.
Any existing third-party rights or agreements relating to Shedwood Bush Scenic Reserve (e.g. concessions, community agreements) continue when the land is transferred but can only be amended with the agreement of the trustees. Similarly, and new third-party rights over the reserve can only be granted with the agreement of the trustees.
The Conservation Area – Shedwood Bush (Part Lot 1 DP 10651 and Part Lot 3 DP 2637, recorded area 54.83 ha) is outside the Spain Award area and is not being transferred to the trustees. It remains as a stewardship area administered by DOC under the Conservation Act 1987. Third-party rights or agreements over the conservation area are not affected and amendments or new third-part rights do not require agreement from the trustees.
