Fruit Pruning with Linda Ballards

Giving some love to your orchard and preparing for a good harvest!

Linda Ballards will share her knowledge about pruning and be available to answer questions. She is also open to offer a Summer workshop on Pruning.

The workshop will concentrate on apples and pears this time, bringing in the important subject of root stock choice and initial training and ongoing summer pruning.

Linda is trained in medical microbiology at Otago University;

Worked in research laboratories in Dunedin then shifted to Nelson, working at the Cawthron Institute briefly before joining Ispray Ltd. (later, Nufarm) as their industrial chemist and then field research officer. At 40, gained a teaching certificate and taught Science for 10 years in High Schools.

I then joined Agriculture NZ, teaching horticulture to adults until retiring at 64.

I have a major interest in gardens and landscaping. A workshop 'junkie', I have attended most of the Marlborough garden showsand have visited many gardens overseas particularly in the UK and the Beauchart Garden in Victoria, Canada. I have landscaped an acre of garden and  orchard in the Aniseed Valley, Richmond.
