Update from the Civil Defence (CD) Planning Group
There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to develop an Emergency Preparedness Plan for Tapawera and the Surrounding Valleys. We have built a preliminary plan and will keep working on this, it consists of key contacts, resources and training that is necessary to support us in the State of an Emergency. There are a few things underway;
- Training of Welfare Officers, who will work as volunteers in the CD Centre during an Emergency.
- Reviewing resources and technology required, we have recently received a generator from the Tasman District Council and there is more to come.
- We plan to keep you continually updated. Look out for our updates in the Informer, on the Tapawera Connect Facebook page and also this Website.
As a household in the region, there should also be careful consideration as to what is needed for your own personal planning in the state of an emergency, including food supplies. A helpful website to support your planning is; https://getready.govt.nz/prepared/household/supplies. Below is also a checklist that is helpful to follow. In addition, Wahine Outdoors will be running workshops later this year that you can attend you can find out more on this by www.wahineoutdoors.co.nz.
It’s important to know your neighbours too, reach out if you are newer to the community, join events, and introduce yourself to know that you and your families are not alone.
