Kia ora koutou,
This message is for the Motueka, Moutere, and Waimea catchment communities — but please feel free to share it with others across the Tasman region who may either need support or be in a position to offer it.
As many of you will know, the recent flood has caused widespread disruption — with some areas coming through relatively unscathed, and others facing serious damage to homes, paddocks, fencing, and access. While Council and Civil Defence are focusing on public infrastructure, there’s a pressing need to support people directly on their properties, especially where living conditions have become difficult.
To help coordinate a community-led response, we’ve put together a short survey to identify:
- Where urgent support is needed — e.g. clearing houses, driveways, drains
- Who might need help — now or in the coming weeks
- Who has time, tools, machinery, or skills to offer — even just for a day
👉 Please fill in the survey here:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Flood25
You can also fill it out on behalf of someone else if they’re unable to do it themselves.
This isn’t a formal system — just a local, practical effort to connect neighbours with each other while official responses are being organised. We’ll do our best to match those who need help with those who can offer it.
Support might include:
- Cleaning out homes, sheds, or driveways
- Clearing drains and culverts
- Emergency grazing or livestock recovery
- Fence repairs and rubbish removal
- Delivery of food, water, or essentials
- Help with native plantings if capacity allows
Attached to this message (click the links below):
- A Tasman District Council Wellbeing Support Flyer (local health, mental health, and financial help)
- A Flood Support Fact Sheet (covers everything from evacuations to rural and animal welfare support)
- Health & Safety Fact Sheet – responsibilities, checklists, and procedures for working safely, especially with volunteers
Please get in touch if you have any questions, suggestions, or offers of help outside the survey. Thank you for being part of this community-led response.
Ngā mihi,
Elliot Easton
